Our first in a series of Cultural Arts based workshops kicked off at the welcoming Ocab residence in Mid-Cities Los Angeles. Under the coordination of Melody Velasco and Jennifer Catanes Avancena, we held two much-needed and well -attended workshops aimed at our youth and young adults. The Language Workshop was led by Charlene Ocab Padua and Clint Batalao Longid -- mixing basic term and conversational sayings with fun interaction. The Music Workshop focused on Kalinga Tupayya gong instrumentation and was led by: Winston Catanes, Daniel Catanes, Noel Medrano, and Mike Wandag. After learning each of the 6 gong positions, everyone broke into smaller groups and later showcased their skills. Mixed in with the workshops were raffle prizes,icebreaker/games, and food galore. Thanks to our warm hosts Rocky and Susan Ocab; David Masen Jr. and KG Padua for the behind-the -scenes support, guidance, and photos; all the volunteers and donors; and especially to our young attendees who inspire us to continue these workshops. Many more to come!
